1:15 AM – 2:45 PM WELCOME AND PLENARY SESSION – Helping Kids Make the Grade: The Role of Afterschool Programs in Preparing Kids for the global economy

Participants in the National City Afterschool Summit and the Afterschool for All Challenge join together for a welcome session highlighting the important role afterschool programs play in helping kids prepare for the workforce of tomorrow. City, school, community and corporate afterschool leaders will be featured.

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM AFTERSCHOOL FORUMS

Youth Advocacy Session (FOR YOUTH ONLY)
CONTINUED FROM MORNING SESSION

An orientation program for youth participants will introduce them to Washington and their role as afterschool advocates. The program will include special training sessions and activities.

4:45 PM – 5:45 PM HILLS VISITS BRIEFING SESSIONS
All participants taking part in Congressional appointments on Wednesday must attend a briefing session to review the issues and talking points for their meetings. Everyone will have an opportunity to role play and determine roles for team members during the meetings.

7:30 AM – 9:30 AM BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

Participants will attend a celebratory breakfast in the Dirksen Senate Office Building at which Congressional afterschool champions will be honored for their leadership on afterschool. State and local awardees will also be recognized. Transportation to the breakfast will be provided from the Hyatt.

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM SMALL GROUP CONGRESSIONAL MEETINGS

HOUSE AND SENATE OFFICE BUILDINGS

Small group meetings will be arranged with members of Congress and/or their staff. Participants will be given an individual Group Schedule with the exact time and room location of each meeting.
