The Dollar General Afterschool Literacy Award

The Afterschool Alliance and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation are pleased to announce the inaugural Dollar General Afterschool Literacy Award!

Eligible afterschool programs that have excelled in providing literacy support to middle school youth have the chance to win $10,000 and be recognized at the 2015 Afterschool for All Challenge in Washington, D.C.    

Nominations are now closed. 

Strong literacy skills can lead to success in school and career, as well as positively impact one’s overall well-being.  Together, the Afterschool Alliance and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation are in search of afterschool programs with demonstrated success improving literacy skills—including reading, writing and comprehension—of middle school program participants to serve as examples of the integral supports afterschool programs are providing to students across the country.

The winner will:

  • Be announced in March 2015, in conjunction with the Afterschool for All Challenge
  • Receive $10,000 for their program
  • Be featured in an issue brief that showcases their work developing students’ literacy skills
  • Have the opportunity to present on webinars and at national conferences
