Agenda for Youth ForumAfterschool for All Challenge 2010 Youth Forum Schedule Monday, April 19 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Convention Grand Opening and General Session * This session of training and fun activities is designed especially for youth. After a "behind-the-scenes" introduction to Capitol Hill, we will explore just what it is that happens in afterschool programs and help empower youth to advocate on behalf of those programs. We'll also be exploring the world of social networking and how it can be used as an advocacy tool for afterschool. In the words of a few participants from a past forum, "I'll tell my story, loud and clear. I'll tell my story, so everyone can hear. I'll tell my story with a smile on my face. I'll tell Congress that I am on their case!" Lunch will be provided for youth 5:15 – 6:30 p.m. Hill Visit Prep Session* Tuesday, April 20 7:00 a.m. Board Buses to Capitol Hill* Youth and chaperones will board buses destined for Capitol Hill 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Congressional Visits* Small group meetings will be arranged with members of Congress and/or their staff. Participants will be given an individual Group Schedule with the exact time and room location of each meeting. (Must attend Hill Visit Prep Session to receive schedule) Note: Lunch (on your own) is avaialbe at one of the following cafeterias:
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Capitol Hill Rally for Afterschool* Wednesday, April 21 10:15 – 11:30 a.m. Breakfast of Champions* Youth are encouraged to attend the "Breakfast of Champions," where we will recognize afterschool leaders from across the country. Two afterschool students will perform alongside platinum rock guitarist Mark Bryan of Hootie and the Blowfish. * indicates that a chaperone must be present with youth. The only time during the conference when youth do not need individual chaperones is during the Youth Advocacy Forum on April 20 when Afterschool Alliance team will supervise youth. Youth must be supervised by chaperones at all other times throughout the event.
