How to Make Afterschool an Election Issue - Campaign and Outreach Tiers

Campaign Tiers

This toolkit is filled with an abundance of information on campaigning; however, you should not feel like you have to complete every step and participate in every recommended activity in order for your campaign to be a success. Rather, you should pick and choose—based on the time you are willing to spend and the resources you have—the strategies most effective for the campaign you want to run. There are a few different tiers of election participation, starting off with an introductory level, best suited to those who do not have a lot of time and resources to devote to an election campaign. For those with a bit more time, there is an intermediate level. Finally, there is a high-participation level for those who would like to run a full campaign around afterschool and elections. Below is a graph that organizes event and outreach suggestions – the ones you see throughout this toolkit – under the tier they fit best. Keep in mind that you can do any of these suggestions and do not need to stay confined to one tier. Tier 3 campaigns should be an expansion off the other two tiers, not an entirely separate one. These tiers are meant to guide you rather than confine you.
