Afterschool Alliance Research

Fact Sheets: Looking for the basic facts about afterschool such as how many children and youth participate, how many are unsupervised and how afterschool programs benefit children, families and communities? These fact sheets provide an overview of the basic facts used to make the case for afterschool in general and 21st Century Community Learning Centers in particular.

Issue Briefs: Name almost any topic and the Afterschool Alliance can tell you how afterschool intersects with that topic. These briefs demonstrate the connections between afterschool and hot topics such as extending the school day, meeting the needs of older youth, health and wellness, serving rural communities and more. Each brief presents the research available on the topic, provides examples of promising afterschool programs and makes the case for greater investment in afterschool.

Polling Data: Americans overwhelmingly support afterschool and want to see more afterschool opportunities and funding. The Afterschool Alliance and a variety of other organizations have commissioned polls of voters, the public, parents, youth and others about the importance of afterschool programs.

America After 3 PM: The first-ever national household survey on how kids spend the after school hours finds that 14.3 million children are unsupervised afterschool. America After 3 PM was commissioned by the Afterschool Alliance with funding from the JCPenney Afterschool Fund and will be updated in 2009.

Reports: Choose from a variety of reports that present evaluation data on afterschool, recent afterschool developments and research on how states and afterschool programs are dealing with tough budget times.

Research By Topic: Search by topic for all of the latest research from the Afterschool Alliance and also find related research and resources from other organizations that help make the case for afterschool.
