Sheri Clark

I know you have heard the saying, "there are angels that walk among us." Well, I am a firm believer that some of them work for our afterschool program.

A.S.P.I.R.E. (After School Program Integrating Recreation and Education)......is an amazing word that has more truth, power and encouragement than most words spoken in today's society. Our afterschool program helps kids to just that..ASPIRE!  The staff encourage kids to explore new ideas, try new things and rise to new heights. They open wide windows to the imagination that otherwise might not even be opened a crack. In afterschool programs, students gain self-confidence, independence and social skills.

My name is Sheri.  I am a single mom blessed with two very special gifts disguised as boys. The boys have different needs and abilities. One of my children has mid-high functioning Autism. I like to refer to autism as awe-tism. The way his mind works is truly rare and wonderful.

If you are parent of a special needs child, you understand how hard it is to trust just anyone with your child. I know you have heard the saying, “there are angels that walk among us.” Well, I am a firm believer that some of them work for our afterschool program. They accept children as they are and treat each child as one-of-a-kind, helping her or him realize just how important, special, talented, and smart she or he is. I have seen my children grow so much under their loving, nurturing care. My boys have tried new foods, projects and experiences that they wouldn't have in a regular child care facility. I have seen my children reach out to others socially and emotionally because of the ASPIRES influence. And I am so grateful.

America's Afterschool Storybook tells the stories of people and communities transformed by afterschool programs.

The Afterschool Alliance launched the Storybook to help commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the only federal initiative dedicated to supporting community afterschool programs.
