20 weeks to the 20th Lights On Afterschool!

We can’t believe it either—this October 24 will be our 20th Lights On Afterschool celebration!

We’ve got exciting plans in the works – so many that we will be unveiling something new each week up until October 24, 2019.

We’re asking you to join us and starting brainstorming how you will celebrate the 20th Lights On Afterschool and shine a light on what’s happening after school. Here’s some inspiration to get you started:

Let’s light up landmarks in as many places as possible! We’ve seen the Sioux Falls, Orlando Eye, Mr. Rogers’ statue, Indianapolis Power & Light Building, the Dallas skyline, the Empire State Building & more light up in honor of Lights On Afterschool. Think about a statue, building, park feature, town hall, stadium, or community center near you. Something that lights every night already is ok. Then ask if the October 24 lighting can be designated in honor of Lights On Afterschool!

How will you rally? Form a giant human lightbulb? Hold a candlelight parade, a bus tour for local policymakers and education leaders, an adult v. youth challenge? Think about your goals—is it showcasing STEM, engaging a funder, engaging parents & community, lifting up youth voice? Search our event database for ideas by topic, activity, audience or level of difficulty to get inspired.

Start using the 20th Lights On Afterschool graphic, and get others excited for what’s to come!

Don’t miss our weekly reveals!  Each week we will be sharing something new, so make sure you get our newsletter and follow us on Facebook afterschoolallianceDC and Twitter @afterschool4all.
