Meet Chris Neitzey, our new Director of STEM Initiatives!

Hello! I’m Chris Neitzey, the new Director of STEM Initiatives at the Afterschool Alliance. Some of you may already be familiar with me from my time with the New York State Network for Youth Success, the statewide afterschool network for New York, where I served most recently as the Policy Director. I couldn’t be more excited to join the Afterschool Alliance, and am looking forward to bringing my state-level experience to the team.

I’ve spent the last 4+ years in New York with the Network for Youth Success, where I worked to advance afterschool and summer learning at the state level, directing advocacy efforts that have focused on bringing new voices and ideas into the discussion, as well as pushing for greater state investments in afterschool. I’ve become a big fan of a “nothing about us, without us” mentality, and hope to bring that focus to my work here.

Prior to joining the Network for Youth Success, I served as an Education and Outreach Specialist with the Maryland Science Center. It was this experience as an informal educator that really sparked my love for STEM, particularly hands-on and project-based learning. I like to think that I’m a testament to the power of informal STEM learning, since I really developed my passion for the field after having the opportunity to experience the wonders of hands-on STEM learning at the science center.

I’m looking forward to combining my backgrounds in STEM and policy in my new position, and look forward to getting to work!
