Join us, NASA, and the STEM Next Opportunity Fund for a live Q&A with an astronaut!

When the STEM Next Opportunity Fund launched the Million Girls Moonshot last month, the goal was to inspire more young girls to pursue STEM. We recognize that one of the most impactful ways to do this is for young girls to see themselves in STEM careers, whether as a computer scientist, mechanical engineer, or nuclear physicist. Young girls need to see there’s a path for them to pursue a career in a STEM field, and one of the best ways to do that is to have role models that help them see that pathway.

One partner we have been looking forward to engaging in this work is NASA. Having such a well-known federal agency as a partner in this work means our platform for engaging girls gets an even bigger boost. What better way to help change the trajectory of women in STEM than for afterschool programs to hear NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli talk about her journey to becoming an astronaut.

On October 23, Million Girls Moonshot and NASA are collaborating with the Afterschool Alliance to provide afterschool youth with an out-of-this-world Lights On Afterschool celebration. Students can speak live with astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, hear how she made the journey to become an astronaut, and answer questions about the Artemis mission to land on the moon!

With the Artemis program, NASA will land the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before. We will collaborate with our commercial and international partners and establish sustainable exploration by the end of the decade. Then, we will use what we learn on and around the Moon to take the next giant leap to sending astronauts to Mars. What better way to celebrate the launch of the Million Girls Moonshot!
