Afterschool for All Challenge

The President’s 2026 budget proposal appears to eliminate funding for afterschool and summer programs–putting 1.4 million youth and 10,000 programs at risk. Join us Tuesday, May 6, 2025 in telling Congress to keep funding our local afterschool and summer programs! Take 2 minutes to contact your reps!

How to participate

We've prepared social media posts on our Digital Action Toolkit to promote and participate in the Challenge. Here's a sample:

Before May 6

Today, I’m urging my reps in Congress to protect kids after school – and reject proposals to eliminate federal funding for local afterschool and summer programs nationwide. We need more, not less, afterschool and summer programs! #AfterschoolWorks Will you join me? http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/challenge.cfm

On May 6

The President’s budget proposes eliminating dedicated federal funding for local afterschool and summer programs. 1 in 5 children may lose their programs nationwide. Join me in telling Congress #AfterschoolWorks 3to6.co/congress

After May 6

Thank you [@InsertRepHandle] for supporting the local afterschool and summer programs that keep kids in our state safe and engaged, and help parents provide for their families. Protect kids and keep funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers! #AfterschoolWorks

Make it personal

There’s nothing like seeing afterschool firsthand to turn a skeptic into a champion. Every member of Congress has local offices and staff. Invite them to come visit! Members themselves are also home several times a year, during Congressional recesses, and appreciate the chance to see and talk to their constituents. So invite them to see firsthand how afterschool and summer learning work in your district.
