President Trump’s budget proposal for FY 2019, released in February, calls for the complete elimination of 21^st Century Community Learning Center funding. These funds currently support nearly 10,000 local afterschool and summer programs serving nearly 2 million children all across the nation. The budget proposal also calls for massive cuts to a wide array of other federal funding streams that go to afterschool programs. What does this mean for your program? Your community? And, most importantly, can these budget cuts be stopped?

In the second of our series of advocacy-focused webinars sponsored by the Bowne Foundation, we’ve invited a panelist of afterschool leaders to share how they prepare students to be effective program advocates through hands-on training and other youth initiatives.

In this webinar, we’ll start with NGSS 101, highlighting components especially of interest to afterschool. Katelyn Wamsted, program director at Girlstart in Austin, Texas, will then share why Girlstart chose to align its programs and curricula to NGSS, and the steps they’ve taken so far.
