About this webinar:

Want to stop budget cuts?  Your Lights On Afterschool celebration can help.

This year’s Lights On Afterschool comes at a critical time for the field. Both President Trump’s budget proposal and bills coming out of the House Appropriations Committee call for huge cuts to both 21st Century Community Learning Center funding and many other funding sources of out-of-school time programs. What does this mean for your program? Your community?

In this webinar, Afterschool Alliance VP of Policy Erik Peterson will run us through the gamut of potential threats to afterschool funding that make this Lights On Afterschool so important, and answer questions from the audience about the latest developments in federal policy. We will then be joined by Dan Gilbert, who will show you the basics of planning a successful Lights On Afterschool event, and give some tips and tricks for how to leverage your Lights On Afterschool celebrations to ensure that champions in your community and your state know just how important afterschool and summer programs are for today’s youth.

Lights On Afterschool celebrations can be whatever you make them; like afterschool programs, Lights On Afterschool events come in all shapes and sizes and don't have to cost a lot to be effective. In this webinar, we will show you how to use our event planning tools and go over all of the basics to help you stay on track with your planning, attract VIPs and work with the media to get your message out. Learn about steps you can take now to help prevent cuts to afterschool in your state, and learn more about what you can do to make sure policy makers see firsthand how afterschool is working for kids, families, and communities.
